From last week itself one part of the so called ‘breaking news’ in the print and electronic media seems to be occupied with the opposition over the recent release of a much hyped movie ‘PK’ by some Hindu outfits in the country. In some of the major cities like Bhopal, Varanasi, Vadodara, etc. people are demanding to ban the movie as it is hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus in India. The Hindu Saint union also seems to differ with what Amir Khan tried to depict in that movie.
I have personally seen the movie and honestly speaking it has entertained me a lot like many others in that cinema hall. Now as a critic,I personally felt that the question that was being raised in the movie should have been in any other way than comedy. Because if you see the gravity of the question and the impact over the society, comedy appears to be more like mocking the god leaving the seriousness of the topic. There are movies like ‘Khuda ke liye’ and ‘Oh!! My god’ released in the past raising similar question, but depicted in a different fashion of using the judiciary system of either India or Pakistan. And as per my understanding both the movies did not face the level of opposition ‘PK’ is facing even though it is doing its business pretty well as per the expectations.
So, the question is why ‘PK’ is being opposed? What ingredients are being found to be offensive by some people(even though the fraction is small) but it can’t be ignored? I read some blogs and comments by senior news editors and respected columnist which says that ‘its the business of some destructive political outfits to create ruckus for no reason’, but I would like be little different from them as any question raised by any civilian in the democracy should be answered without stereo typing them. Basically ‘PK’ took the path of media stunt to bring down a Godman(‘Tapasvi’ maharaj by Saurabh Shukla) without any judicial probe. It also shown how the blind faith of people in this country starts praying a stone kept below a tree.
That’s a true bizarre in this country that people can pray and worship anything, but Amir Khan forgot one very basic concept of human civilization that nothing is greater than a blind faith in this world. Blind faiths has done miracles before and it was very well used in the movie ‘Guide’ by Devanand long back. If the director could have restricted himself till the insult of a Godman, the situation could have been something else. Pointing towards the blind faith of people in a stone, cross or mazaar is a sin and no one should forget that. This country has seen lot of social reforms like abolition of Sati Pratha, Child Marriage, Widow remarriage, etc. and society is open for such change but demarcation should be there.
Right from our childhood, we are poised to believe that ‘Men will be men’ as a worst sarcasm towards the men. And what’s the reason to believe that? Just because they look at any other girl except the one with them doesn’t necessarily makes a man betrayer, infidel or whatever be the meaning of the phrase ‘Men will be men’.
Actually its just the other way around ‘Women will be women’!! I will cite some of the very beautiful examples to prove that. One morning house maid comes to inform the lady of the house that ‘ Madam I won’t be able to come today for domestic help as few guests are coming at my home’ !! Guess what could have happened if similar thing could have been said to the Man of the house? He might have said ‘ Alright!! Go ahead with your guests. I will have food at a restaurant and I will be fine with little less cleaned house today’. Right?
But, what the lady of the house did was classical and phenomenal!! She immediately told her to get inside the house and closed the door like there is a kind of ghost outside and then with all the worries of the world she says ‘ Look!! I already took a bath and cannot use the broomstick to clean the house and cannot wash the plates kept in the sink. So, please clean it up and then you can go and enjoy with your guests’.
All the excitement over the face of maid was gone and she did all her domestic help and then left. How inhuman and cruel is that? And that’s the case with almost all the women generation after generation. So, how come they say ‘Men will be men’ just for taking a gaze towards a lady. At least men will never show such cruelty against the women. It can only be done by another women and so ‘ Women will be women’ 🙂 !!
Another example and that too with the maid only . A maid knocks the door of a bachelor guy and asks whether he need domestic help. Guy with a quirky look asks for how much she will charge monthly for domestic help and she says nothing less than 1200 rupees. Guy agrees upon 1300 with just one verbal assurance of keeping everything clean and handover one key of the flat as he work in a support project(in shifts). Maid happily murmurs ‘boys are rocking’ .
Same maid goes to the next door of a newly married couple and the lady of the house opens the door. She ask the same question whether the lady needs the domestic help. Guess what answer she might have got!! Lady says that she doesn’t have much work in the house except daily cleaning up the house, cloths, utensils, dusting the couch and beds and sometimes small help in cooking. Maid said that’s okay and I will charge 1200 monthly for that, on which lady says that she can manage things herself as she don’t need such a costly domestic help. Maid seriously needed the work to earn more and so she agrees on 1000 rupees monthly for the lady.
So, basically women doesn’t have any rights to say ‘ Men will be men’ as almost in the all the examples one can figure out that men are more kindhearted towards the women in comparison to women themselves. Take the example of the two girls from Haryana who beaten up a guy in a public bus due to eve teasing. Police is considering them for bravery award, but 3 elderly women from the village of those girls came in the support of the molester by raising the questions on those girl’s intentions.
Remember the magic show during the school time!! A man with black lined eyes, colored kurta, decent pagdi and a wand(claimed to be a magic stick 🙂 ) in his hand with a quite funny ascent of Hindi and English. And he used to get some of our fellow schoolmates to perform some of the most funniest and unthinkable acts like making them drink water and taking out milk through their lower part of the body by using their hands like a hand-pump. Now after completing the age of 30 when I look back, then I find life as more fashionable and empowered magician than those poor black eye lined magicians of our school time.It has shown us the most unthinkable, painful, funny, weird and memorable acts that even the most creative and fantasizing minds of our childhood might have failed to visualize. Some of us lost their loving parents or grandparents, seen our ever youth handsome father getting retired from his services 🙂 , seen the pretty young mothers getting old, breakups in strong relationship, girlfriends becoming wives, some of us have become parents of wonderful kids, and all that we never even thought of 10 years back. Some of us might be saying time has changed. Yeah, and that might be the biggest magic-trick being used by life i.e. change the time 🙂 . Coming out of the comfortable zone of my personal life along with my friends, to discuss some of the very brilliant magic shows by life in our country and world towards the sociopolitical side. Starting with our honorable newly elected Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi. Honestly speaking, 10 years back nobody in India might have even imagined that he could be the PM of this nation and that too after having so much of political allegations for Gujrat riots and massacre. From media to several political parties kept on defaming him at several fronts and forums. And then the real magic show begins somewhere around the mid 2013, when he took the charge of heading the BJP election campaign. People says that it was anti-incumbency against the Congress Party but for me it is nohow lesser than the magic show performed for the entire world. All of us might have studied the story of an unsinkable sea vessel Titanic or at least might have watched the movie itself. In 1912 it was claimed that Titanic was unsinkable and one of its kind in the history. It was designed and made with acute precision and was claimed to sustain almost every possible natural calamity that a vessel can encounter during its voyage. But, again life shows its real magic in the very first journey of Titanic and failed all the claims made by the shipping and naval architecture. That’s one of the most tragic shows by Life but that’s how it is. It always shows us the unthinkable. Nilesh Ranjan
